NEWPORT CENTER — A 49-year-old man from Holland was arrested following an incident in Newport Center yesterday.

Authorities say they were notified of an altercation at an apartment complex on Vermont Route 105 at around 7:00 p.m.

Two individuals reportedly left in separate vehicles and were located by responding units from Newport Police Department and the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department at the Maplefield’s store in Newport City.

Police identified the suspect as James Beauvais.

He was found to be in violation of a temporary restraining order by being in contact with the other individual.

Beauvais was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Derby barracks.

Upon completion of processing, he was lodged on $200 bail and conditions of release imposed by the court.

He was cited to appear in court on Monday to answer to the charge of violation of an abuse prevention order.
