Driver charged after nearly causing several head-on collisions in Shaftsbury

SHAFTSBURY — A 69-year-old man from Arlington was cited for negligent operation following an incident in Shaftsbury on Friday.

Police say they were traveling south on Vermont Route 7A when a black Mercedes sedan was traveling north in the southbound lane of travel to overtake several vehicles.

The black Mercedes nearly caused several head-on collisions with vehicles traveling southbound.

Police say the driver was making sudden lane changes.

A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was identified as Joseph P. Thompson.

hompson was cited to appear in court on August 14 to answer the charge.
