Threat at Poultney High School prompts closure, investigation

POULTNEY — The Rutland County Sheriff’s Office and Vermont State Police are investigating a reported threat at Poultney High School, leading to the cancellation of classes today.

Authorities became aware of the possible threat on Wednesday.

The decision to cancel classes was made by school leadership, out of an abundance of caution, the sheriff’s office said.

The Rutland County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is urged to call the sheriff’s office at 802-775-8002 or leave an anonymous tip on the state police’s website.

No further information is currently available from the Vermont State Police, and questions have been directed to school officials.
