FedEx truck driver cited after damaging Sunderland covered bridge, leaving scene

SUNDERLAND — A FedEx box truck driver from New York was cited for leaving the scene of an accident after reportedly causing significant damage to a covered bridge in Sunderland.

On June 8, troopers from the Vermont State Police Shaftsbury Barracks responded to reports of a crash at the Chiselville Covered Bridge located on Sunderland Hill Road.

Jeffrey M. Colburn, 49, of W. Coxsackie, New York, is accused of striking the covered bridge twice with his 2016 Isuzu NPR-HD box truck, causing heavy damage to the bridge.

Colburn reportedly left the scene of the accident without reporting the damage or exchanging information.

Troopers located him shortly after on Sunderland Hill Road.

He was issued a citation to appear at the Bennington County Superior Court to answer for the charge of leaving the scene of an accident.
