CHARLOTTE — A 44-year-old man from Middlebury was arrested for excessive speeding in Charlotte today.

Police say they were conducting speed enforcement near the intersection of US Route 7 and Lime Kiln Road at around 10:40 a.m.

They observed a black sedan traveling south on US Route 7 in excess of the speed limit and confirmed via radar the sedan was traveling 88 miles-per-hour in a 50 miles-per-hour zone.

The sedan was stopped without incident and the driver was identified as Michael Winters.

Further investigation into Winters DMV record showed that his privilege to operate a motor vehicle had been civilly suspended.

Winters was arrested without incident and transported to the Vermont State Police Williston barracks for processing.

He was issued a citation to appear in court for the offense of excessive speed at a later date.
