Child killed after fatal crash in Sheldon

SHELDON — Police are investigating a fatal crash reported in Sheldon on Saturday.

The crash took place on Vermont Route 105, near Lumbra Road, at around 9:15 p.m.

A Chevrolet Malibu became engulfed in flames, and members of the Sheldon Fire Department extinguished the vehicle shortly after their arrival.

Police say the driver, Nicholas Tanner, 40, of Highgate, was pronounced deceased on the scene.

A passenger in the second vehicle, Olivia Miles, 7, of Enosburg, was transported to Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Both the driver and front-seat passenger in the second vehicle received minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and processed it along with members of the St. Albans barracks.

The crash remains under investigation, and anyone who might have had contact with Tanner or witnessed the collision is being asked to contact the Vermont State Police.
