SWANTON — A 30-year-old woman from Highgate was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Swanton this week.

The crash took place on I-89 at around 10:20 p.m. on May 24.

According to the report, Shannon Prior was traveling north and went off the west side of the road, collided with a ledge.

The vehicle came to an uncontrolled rest in the middle of both lanes of travel.

Ruth Moore, 54, of South Paris, Maine, was also traveling north and came upon the scene of the crash.

Due to Prior’s vehicle not being illuminated Moore did not immediately observe it in the road.

When Moore did observe Prior’s vehicle, she attempted to swerve around it in the passing lane.

Police say Prior was standing outside of her vehicle and attempted to run toward the center median to avoid being struck by Moore’s vehicle.

Moore hit Prior’s vehicle and Prior sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to UVM Medical Center for treatment.

Police say she was charged with DUI at the hospital.
