Victim in fatal crash in Newark identified

NEWARK — The man who died in a crash in Newark yesterday has been identified as Ian Cunningham, 54, from Walden, Vermont.

The accident, which occurred near the intersection of River Lane, happened at around 8:40 p.m.

Cunningham, 54, was the operator of a 2008 Toyota Tacoma that was traveling north when his vehicle crossed the center line and started traveling in the southbound lane, colliding head-on with a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado.

Cunningham succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in Cunningham’s vehicle, Marvin Johnson, 41, and Mackenzie Kirby, 26, both of Walden, were seriously injured.

Johnson was initially transported to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital but was later moved to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Kirby was transported to North Country Hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

Rene Morse, 32, of Charleston, the driver of the Chevrolet, was also transported to North Country Hospital with serious injuries.

Morse was later moved to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, and is also in stable condition.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
