Fire at Jay Auto under investigation

JAY — Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out yesterday on Vermont Route 242 in Jay.

The victim, Douglas Demers, 45, was the owner of a 2012 U-Haul truck that caught fire and burned at Jay Auto.

The fire is believed to be the result of direct human involvement and is considered suspicious.

The vehicle sustained extensive damage from fire, heat, and smoke.

The Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit members responded to the scene and conducted an examination to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

The fire occurred at yesterday at around midnight as the vehicle was parked adjacent to the Cross Road.
