MOULTONBOROUGH — Emergency responders were dispatched to Long Island Road by West Point Road for a reported single vehicle rollover collision early yesterday morning.

Upon arrival, officers found that a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Robert Twombly of Rochester, New Hampshire, had been traveling southbound on Long Island Road by Long Island Beach.

Police say Twombly took his attention off of the roadway to put on his work boots, as he was late for work.

His vehicle crossed the northbound lane and went off the easterly side of the roadway, where he struck a ditch, causing his vehicle to go airborne, striking a stonewall and a tree, and rolling over onto the roof in a residential driveway.

Miraculously, no other vehicles were involved, and the driver walked away uninjured.

Twombly’s vehicle sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by John’s Towing of Moultonborough.
