Man who pulled gun on 2 people in Rutland gets 6 years in prison

RUTLAND — A 29-year-old Massachusetts man has been sentenced to over six years in prison for possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute and being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm in Vermont.

According to court records, Varian Lefebvre of Springfield, Massachusetts, pointed a handgun at two women at the Holiday Inn in Rutland during an armed confrontation with another person on January 21, 2021.

Vermont State Police responded to the incident and encountered Lefebvre as he was leaving the hotel wearing a backpack.

A search of the backpack turned up a fully loaded handgun and 220 bags of fentanyl.

Lefebvre pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Christina Reiss to 77 months in prison followed by a 7-year term of supervised release.

The case was investigated by the Vermont State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
