Woman dies after fire breaks out in Mendon

MENDON — A 52-year-old woman died in a fire that broke out in Mendon on Saturday.

Authorities were notified of a woman who was injured in a fire at her home on Old Stockbridge Path at around 11:40 p.m.

The woman was able to escape the home before emergency crews arrived.

A 17-year-old boy and 11-year-old girl who had been in the home survived the fire without injury, along with the family dog.

Abatiell Furlan was taken by Regional Ambulance Service to Rutland Regional Medical Center, where she died at about 1:30 a.m

The origin of the fire is believed to be in or around a wood-burning furnace and chimney.

Responding fire departments included agencies from Rutland City, Rutland Town, Killington, Chittenden, Proctor, and Pittsford.
