WELLS RIVER — A 22-year-old man was cited following an incident in Wells River early yesterday morning.

Police say they observed a vehicle operating at 67 miles-per-hour in a posted 50 miles-per-hour zone on Route 302 at around 12:50 a.m.

Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle but the vehicle failed to yield to the officer’s emergency blue lights and siren.

Police say the vehicle continued at a high rate of speed reaching speeds up to 92 miles-per-hour in a posted 50 miles-per-hour zone while driving into the oncoming lane of travel.

Troopers discontinued the traffic stop due to the negligent, and unsafe driving of the operator.

Troopers located the vehicle at around 3:40 p.m.

They met with the suspected driver, identified as Randall Batten, of Wells River.

Following an investigation, police say that Batten was in fact the driver.

He was issued a citation to appear in court to answer to the charges of gross negligent operation, and attempting to elude a police officer.
