Two men arrested for stealing wood chippers in Colchester

COLCHESTER – Two men have been arrested for stealing two brand new wood chippers from Lowe’s in Colchester yesterday.

According to the Colchester Police Department, Officer John Larose and his Field Training Officer, Jordan Barriere, spotted the two men carrying the wood chippers on the sidewalk near the intersection of College Parkway and Ethan Allen Avenue.

As the officers approached the individuals, one male fled on foot.

With assistance from Williston, Winooski, and the Essex Police Department, the individual who fled was shortly located and detained.

Further investigation revealed that the wood chippers were stolen from Lowe’s that morning and their combined value was approximately $4000.

The two males involved were identified as 35-year-old Richard Hammond of Colchester, and 49-year-old Daniel Culver of Barre City.

Both face charges of grand larceny and are scheduled to appear in court on May 4, 2023.
