Driver seriously injured during crash in Sunderland

SUNDERLAND – Two vehicles collided on U.S. Route 7 in Sunderland this morning, leaving one driver with serious injuries, according to Vermont State Police.

Kelsey Sullivan, 27, of Madison, Wisconsin, was operating a 2006 Honda CRV traveling northbound on the highway, when she lost control due to the poor roadway and weather conditions.

Witnesses on the scene advised they saw Sullivan swerve in the northbound lane of travel, cross the centerline, and travel into the southbound lane before sliding sideways.

Ryan Artuso, 39, of Danville, was operating a 2005 GMC Canyon heading south on U.S. Route 7, when he collided with the passenger side of Sullivan’s vehicle.

Both vehicles were left inoperable and sustained heavy damage.

Sullivan was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for medical evaluation and was later transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries to her upper body, including her head and neck.

Artuso sustained minor injuries and was transported to SVMC for medical evaluation.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
