CHARLOTTE — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in Charlotte today.

The crash took place on US Route 7 and State Park Road at around 2:15 p.m.

According to the report, Aaron Grzych, 28, of St Johnsbury, was traveling south prior to the crash.

Grzych crossed over the double yellow centerline and left the traveled portion of the road.

After leaving the road, he hit a utility pole causing power lines to block the road.

The downed power lines were then struck by a second vehicle driven by James Higdon, 54, of Sparta, NJ.

While speaking with Grzych, police say they detected several signs of impairment.

Grzych was screened for driving under the influence and placed under arrest for the suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

He was transported to the Vergennes Police Department for processing and released on a citation to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges of DUI and negligent operation.

US Route 7 was closed for a short period of time while emergency crews worked to remove debris and the downed power lines from the road.
