VSP trooper involved in single-vehicle crash in Pownal

POWNAL — A 33-year-old Vermont state trooper was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Pownal yesterday.

The crash took place on North Pownal Road, near the intersection of Mount Anthony Road, at around 12:45 a.m.

According to the report, Benjamin Irwin, of Pownal, was traveling east on North Pownal Road when he applied the brakes preparing for a downhill curve.

He began to lose control on the snow and ice covered road.

Irwin made attempts to correct the course of the cruiser which ultimately went off the shoulder of the road and hit a utility pole guidewire.

Police say during the time of the crash, it was snowing and the road surface was snow and ice covered.

He was not injured during the crash.
