1 min read

CLAREMONT — Retired Claremont Police Lieutenant Donald B. Fontaine, Jr., passed away on February 25 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center following a brief illness.

Fontaine was a highly-decorated and respected member of the Claremont Police Department and an esteemed member of the Claremont community.

He was appointed as a Special (Part-Time) Officer in December 1973, and a full-time position in May of 1976.

Fontaine immediately distinguished himself as a key member of the agency and was promoted to Sergeant in June of 1978.

He returned to private business briefly in 1980 but heeded the call to return to serve his community less than a year later.

Once again demonstrating his compassion and desire to serve his neighbors, he was promoted to Lieutenant in April of 1988.

He finally “pulled the pin” in 1997, setting out to enjoy retirement from the City of Claremont.

The City of Claremont and Sullivan County will dearly miss this giant of a man.

The arrangements are as follows:

Sunday, March 5th, Visiting Hours from 2pm-4pm at Stringer Funeral Home, Broad Street.

Monday, March 6th, Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30am at St. Joseph’s Parish, Elm Street.
