Man arrested for shooting in Hampton

HAMPTON — A 54-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a shooting incident in Hampton on Monday.

On February 13, authorities say they were notified of multiple gun shots in the area of Lafayette Road and Stickney Terrace at around 8:15 p.m.

Police say they conducted an extensive search of the area and eventually located multiple spent ammunition casings in the driveway outside of an apartment building located at 32 Stickney Terrace.

Officers spoke with several witnesses who described hearing bursts of gunfire.

The suspect was identified as Richard Butler, of Hampton.

He faces charges charges of being a felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, and unauthorized use of a firearm.

He was denied bail and was transferred to the custody of the Rockingham County Department of Corrections pending arraignment.
