Cambridge woman arrested for shooting husband in Burlington

BURLINGTON — A 40-year-old woman is facing charges following a shooting incident that took place in Burlington on Sunday.

Authorities say they were notified by a woman that a man at her location had been shot on Riverside Avenue at around 6:30 p.m.

Police say they responded to the home and found the woman, identified as Tovi R. Mesick, of Cambridge, and a 44-year-old man at the location.

The man had a bullet wound in his chest and was transported by the Burlington Fire Department to the University of Vermont Medical Center.

Police say the victim and witness statements as well as evidence at the scene allowed them to identify a suspect as Tovi R. Mesick, of Cambridge.

A notice was sent to surrounding law-enforcement agencies, and within half an hour she was detained in Winooski by officers with the Winooski Police Department.

Police say Mesick is known for several dozen previous law-enforcement encounters, including federal involvements, many of which involved firearms.

She is being charged with attempted murder.
