JAY — A 31-year-old man from Woodstock is facing multiple charges following an incident in Jay on Friday.

Authorities say they were notified of a physical altercation between former spouses in a vehicle on Vermont Route 242 at around 2:45 p.m.

Police say the driver, identified as Nicholas Maura, was operating the vehicle with the victim and their child inside.

The victim told police that Maura prevented her from leaving the vehicle due to erratic operation and refusing to stop.

Maura was later located and stopped in the town of Richford.

Following an investigation, police allege that Maura had caused physical harm to his former spouse along with committing other traffic violations.

Police say all violations were determined to have been committed in front of their child and while being impaired by alcohol.

Maura was transported to the Derby barracks for processing, where he was later lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility.

He is ordered to appear in court to answer for the offenses of 2nd-degree aggravated domestic assault, unlawful restraint, criminal threatening, cruelty to a child, offense committed in the presence of a child, interference with access to emergency services, negligent operation, violation conditions of release, and DUI #2.
