MONTPELIER — A 22-year-old man from Barre was arrested in Montpelier on Thursday.
Authorities were notified of an altercation that occurred at a day shelter on Barre Street at around 2:40 p.m.
The involved party was reported to have assaulted another individual then fled the scene.
Police say they located him nearby and took him into custody.
They were evaluated by Washington County Mental Health Services and taken to the hospital for further mental health evaluation.
The victim was treated on scene by the Montpelier Ambulance Service for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say probable cause was established that the man had committed the crime of simple assault and was arrested.
At this time, police have not identified the suspect.
