NEWPORT — A 23-year-old Connecticut man busted with a large amount of drugs in Orleans County back in 2021 was sentenced today.

Jorge Torres, of Hartford, will serve to 27 months of imprisonment.

Torres previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

The judge also ordered that Torres serve three years of supervised release after he serves his term of imprisonment.

According to court records, on December 21, 2021, Torres was arrested in Orleans while he was traveling north on I-91.

He was found in possession of about 1,500 bags of fentanyl, several grams of crack cocaine, and a loaded 9mm handgun.

Police say prior to his arrest, Torres sold fentanyl on several occasions to one or more persons cooperating with law enforcement.
