Crash in Newfane leads to DUI#2, heroin charges

NEWFANE — A 28-year-old man from Wilmington was arrested following a single-vehicle crash in Newfane early this morning.

The vehicle crashed into a tree in the area of Vermont Route 30 and Cross Street at around 5:45 a.m.

Police say they spoke with the driver, identified as Michael Mazzella, who displayed signs of alcohol and drug impairment when they arrived.

He was arrested for suspicion of DUI and was transported for processing.

During a search of his person, a misdemeanor amount of heroin was located, police say.

He was released with a criminal citation and is scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges of DUI #2, and possession of heroin.
