Police: Middlebury man facing charges following Rutland-area theft

RUTLAND — A 43-year-old man from Middlebury was arrested following an incident in Rutland yesterday.

Authorities say they were notified of an active retail theft at Tractor Supply at around 5:30 p.m.

Police were advised a woman had left the store with stolen merchandise and fled the area on foot.

Troopers arrived in the area and were unable to locate the woman.

Police say they were contacted approximately one hour later and advised a man was in the store trying to exchange the stolen merchandise.

Police made contact with the man who was identified as Brian Sheldon.

Police say that Sheldon was in possession of the stolen property, in violation of court-ordered conditions of release, and had driven to Tractor Supply with a criminally suspended license.

Sheldon was taken into custody and issued a citation to appear in court at a later date and time.
