First responder vehicle hit at Waterbury crash scene

WATERBURY — A first responder vehicle was hit while responding to a two-vehicle crash in Waterbury yesterday.

The crash took place on Loomis Hill Road at around 12:40 p.m.

According to the report, a vehicle driven by Karla Bartolomet, 52, of Waterbury, was headed south on Loomis Hill Road and collided with Jo-Anne Smith, 52, of Waterbury.

Police say the Bartolomet crossed into the oncoming lane of travel before the crash.

Smith was evaluated by EMS but declined transport.

While first responders were on scene, Jahid Habasi, 35, of Blauvelt, NY, rear-ended an unoccupied first responder vehicle.

Police say nobody has injured in the secondary crash.

Bartolomet and Habasi were both issued traffic tickets for driving at speeds greater than reasonable or prudent for conditions of the highway.
