SPRINGFIELD — Two 18-year-old men were cited for excessive speeding in Springfield yesterday.

Police say they observed the vehicles traveling west on Charlestown Road at well over the posted 50 miles-per-hour speed limit at around 12:45 p.m.

One car was traveling 84 miles-per-hour, the second 97 miles-per-hour, police say.

Both drivers were issued citations to appear in court at a later date.

They were also issued traffic tickets for the civil speeding violations.

Due to the age of the speeders, police have not released their names, but say they were both from Springfield.
