CAVENDISH — A tractor-trailer crashed into a river in Cavendish yesterday.

The incident took place on Route 131 near the Weathersfield town line at around 2:55 a.m.

According to the report, Donald Darrah, of Lake Luzerne, NY, was standing on top of the tractor-trailer and able to communicate with first responders, but due to the water depth and temperatures, a cold water rescue was required.

Members of the Proctorsville and West Weathersfield FD Cold Water Rescue teams successfully retrieved the Darrah.

Darrah told police that he lost control of the vehicle as he was going around the snow-covered corner.

The tractor-trailer unit ended up on its passenger side in the middle of the Black River.
