Rutland woman arrested for theft, trying to stab Joann Fabrics employee

RUTLAND — A 36-year-old woman was arrested on multiple charges following an incident in Rutland yesterday.

Authorities were notified of an active retail theft from Joann Fabrics at around 6:45 p.m.

Police say the woman attempted to stab an employee with a knife in the parking lot when she was confronted regarding the theft.

Police took Valerie Sullivan, of Rutland, into custody.

Following an investigation, police allege that Sullivan committed additional retail thefts at Bed Bath and Beyond and Michaels retail stores.

Sullivan was also found to be in possession of heroin.

She was lodged for the charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of heroin, and retail theft.
