SHAFTSBURY — A 39-year-old man from Massachusetts is facing multiple charges following an incident in Shaftsbury on Tuesday.
Police say they were monitoring traffic along U.S. Route 7 at around 9:15 p.m. when they witnessed a vehicle overtake another vehicle and continue at a high rate of speed.
The car was clocked doing 129 miles-per-hour in a posted 55 mile-per-hour speed zone.
Troopers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as Steven Lopez, 39, of Chicopee, Massachusetts.
He was issued a citation to appear in court to answer to the charges of careless and negligent operation and excessive speed.
He is scheduled to appear in court on January 17.
He was also issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint about speeding, which totals $1,068 and carries 2 points.
