PORTLAND, ME — Police discovered decomposed human remains in woods behind a homeless services center on March 19, 2026.
Officers responded to the Homeless Services Center at 654 Riverside Street at 8:42 a.m. after receiving a report of the remains.
Upon arrival, officers found remains that appeared to have been there for a significant amount of time.
The death does not appear suspicious at this time.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
Police are working to identify the deceased.
