Two arrested on drug trafficking charges in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Two men were arrested and a trafficking weight of crack-cocaine was seized following a traffic stop Tuesday evening.

Springfield Police officers conducted a traffic stop on the 500 block of Union Street at approximately 8:10 p.m. on March 17.

The driver and passenger, later identified as Roberto Gueits-Delgado and Jhonatan Figueroa, began to walk away from the vehicle, ignoring officers’ commands.

While attempting to detain Gueits-Delgado, he broke free from the officer and grabbed a fanny pack out of the car.

A struggle ensued where Gueits-Delgado punched the officer in the face and the officer utilized OC spray.

During the struggle, the fanny pack fell onto the ground.

Figueroa picked it up and began to run away.

Assisting officers located Figueroa near the intersection of Union and Stebbins streets.

Inside the fanny pack, officers recovered approximately 29 grams of crack-cocaine, one bag of cocaine, two bags of marijuana and approximately 216 baggies of heroin.

Officers also seized more than $1,400 in cash from Gueits-Delgado.

Roberto Gueits-Delgado, 21, of Springfield, is charged with trafficking crack-cocaine 18-36 grams, possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug, possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Jhonatan Figueroa, 32, of Lynn, Massachusetts, is charged with trafficking crack-cocaine 18-36 grams, possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug, possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug, assault and battery on a police officer, two counts of resisting arrest and an arrest warrant from Lynn District Court for possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug.
