MALONE, NY — New York State Police arrested a woman March 16, 2026, and charged her with two counts of Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree, Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree and Scheme to Defraud in the 1st Degree.
Jennifer A. Laughing, 48, of Hogansburg, was taken into custody following an investigation that began in November.
State Police were notified of a larceny complaint at approximately 8 p.m. Nov. 12.
An investigation determined that Laughing, an employee of Citizens Advocate in Malone, was responsible for the care of two disabled residents.
While acting in this role, Laughing allegedly took funds and misused money belonging to both individuals.
An internal investigation revealed that Laughing took approximately $5,073.32 from one individual and $2,573.47 from the other.
A warrant for her arrest was issued by the Town of Malone Court.
Members of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department located Laughing, took her into custody and turned her over to State Police.
Laughing was processed at SP Malone and subsequently arraigned in the Town of Malone Court, where she was remanded to the Franklin County Jail without bail.
