Police seek help identifying shooting suspect in Newark

NEWARK, NJ — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who shot a man in the leg on March 13, 2026.

Officers responded to University Hospital at approximately 10 p.m. after receiving reports that a shooting victim had arrived for treatment.

Police determined the shooting occurred in the 200 block of South Orange Avenue near Littleton Avenue.

The victim and suspect appeared to have an argument before the suspect shot the victim in the leg, according to Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr.

The suspect is described as a tall Black male with a medium complexion.

He was wearing a black Nike ski mask, a gray hooded sweatshirt, pants, a black coat and gray sneakers.

The suspect fled west on South Orange Avenue after the shooting.

Director Miranda is urging anyone with information about the suspect’s identity to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).

All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
