Three-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Homer

HOMER, NY — New York State Police at Homer responded to a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 near mile marker 55.9 on March 15, 2026, at approximately 4:49 p.m.

An investigation determined that three vehicles were traveling north on Interstate 81.

A 2012 Honda Accord was traveling at an unsafe speed, passing a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu in the right lane.

The operator of the Honda, Mahmudul Hasan, 35, of Syracuse, moved unsafely from the right lane into the left lane, striking the Chevrolet Malibu and causing the Chevrolet Malibu to strike the guiderail.

The operator of the Honda Accord overcorrected his vehicle after the initial crash and struck a 2020 Subaru CrossTrek.

TLC Ambulance responded and a one-year-old female passenger from the Honda Accord was transported to Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.

Hasan and a 31-year-old female passenger did not report any injuries.

The operator of the Chevrolet, Joseph G. Giordano, 64, of Ithaca, reported a complaint of pain on scene but did not wish to be transported to a hospital.

The occupants of the Subaru, Daniel J. Todd, 21, of Fairfax, Virginia, a 21-year-old male passenger and 19-year-old male passenger did not report any injuries.

The Honda was towed from the scene by Morey Towing.

The Chevrolet was towed from the scene by Clutkey’s Towing.

The Subaru was driven from the scene.

Hasan was issued three citations.
