YORKTOWN, NY — New York State Police arrested a man on drunken driving charges after a traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway on March 15, 2026.
Troopers from the Stormville barracks stopped a vehicle traveling northbound on the parkway at approximately 9:59 p.m. for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
The operator, Anthony T. Mercado, 34, of Mahopac, displayed signs of intoxication during the stop, police said.
Mercado failed standardized field sobriety tests, according to police.
Three children, ages 3, 7 and 9, were in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
Mercado was taken into custody and transported to the Stormville barracks for processing.
He submitted to a chemical breath test that yielded a blood alcohol content of 0.12%, police said.
The children were safely released to a sober third party.
Mercado was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, a class E felony under Leandra’s Law, and driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor.
He was also charged with vehicle and traffic law violations.
Mercado was issued traffic tickets returnable to Yorktown Town Court on April 15, 2026, at 10 a.m.
