Man charged with menacing in Albany

ALBANY, NY — A 31-year-old man has been charged in connection with a menacing incident that occurred early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, March 15, 2026 around 12:25 a.m., officers responded to Washington Tavern located at 250 Western Avenue for reports of a person with a weapon.

Upon arrival, officers learned that an altercation had occurred between the establishment’s security staff and James Edwards of Albany.

During the incident, Edwards pulled a knife and ran toward security in a threatening manner before fleeing the scene on foot.

Edwards was observed by responding officers in the area of Western Avenue and Quail Street and taken into custody.

Edwards has been charged with one count of Menacing 2nd and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd.

He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail with bail set at $20,000.
