TEWKSBURY, MA — Police have located remains believed to be those of a Tewksbury woman who had been missing for more than a year.
The remains, believed to be those of Jill Kloppenburg, were found Sunday in Tyngsborough, according to a statement released Monday by Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus.
Kloppenburg, a Tewksbury resident, had been missing for more than a year.
“This is not the outcome anyone hoped for, but we are grateful Jill’s family and friends can finally have answers and some measure of peace and closure,” Columbus said in the statement.
Members of the Tewksbury Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division worked the case for more than a year, following every lead in an effort to locate Kloppenburg, according to the statement.
Columbus recognized Detective Timothy Oteri, whose work was central to the investigation.
A suspect is in custody, Columbus said.
The investigation involved the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police, the Lowell Police Department and the Tyngsborough Police Department.
