Man arrested as fugitive in Chemung County

CHEMUNG COUNTY, NY — A man wanted in Pennsylvania on a firearms charge turned himself in to authorities.

Justin P. Smith, 37, of Ashland, was arrested as a fugitive from justice on March 12.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office said Smith was wanted out of Bradford County, Pennsylvania, on a charge of failure to appear.

The lead offense was firearms not to be carried without a license, in violation of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code.

The Criminal Investigations Division received the warrant from Bradford County requesting that Smith be held.

Smith turned himself in to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, where he was taken into custody and processed.

He was arraigned by Horseheads Town Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail.

Smith is awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.
