Man charged with attempted robbery in Rome

ROME, NY — A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attempted robbery of an Amazon delivery driver.

The Rome Police Department Patrol Division responded to a report of an attempted robbery in the 1700 block of N. George Street at approximately 6:10 p.m. on March 6, 2026.

The victim, an Amazon delivery driver, reported that an unknown white male approached him and demanded his personal belongings while stating, “This is a robbery.”

During the encounter, the suspect became distracted while attempting to access the rear of the delivery vehicle, allowing the driver to safely flee the area.

Following an investigation, officers identified the suspect on March 7, 2026 as Alec W. DeBella, 24, of Rome.

Officers later located DeBella at his residence and took him into custody without incident.

DeBella was charged with attempted robbery in the second degree, a felony offense.

He was transported to the Oneida County Jail, where he was held pending arraignment.
