ADAMS, MA — A police corporal fired one round at a man armed with a weapon during a stabbing investigation on Jan. 27.

Corporal Baker responded to 31 Commercial Street at approximately 9:15 p.m. for a report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, Baker observed a male in the shadows but could not see his hands.

Baker ordered the male, later identified as Mr. White, to show his hands, but White did not comply.

White then began to quickly approach the officer.

Baker observed that White had a “shiny type weapon” in his hand that had sharp edges and appeared to have blood on it.

Baker drew his firearm upon observing the weapon.

Baker determined that White posed an immediate threat and discharged his firearm, firing one round at White.

White was not struck by the bullet.

White briefly got to his knees, began to get up again, and then returned to his knees.

Officers were able to bring White into custody without further incident.

Baker’s body worn camera was activated by the department’s Signal Sidearm device, which automatically activates cameras when a firearm is drawn from the holster.
