FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ — A Sparta Township man was arrested Feb. 5 following an investigation into several attempted motor vehicle burglaries.
Jassan Stoeckel, 48, of Sparta Township, was taken into custody by Franklin Borough Patrol Officers Eric Moschberger and Jonathan Sienkiewicz.
Police said the attempted burglaries occurred in the early morning hours of Feb. 4 in the Franklin Meadows section of the borough.
Investigators determined that a male suspect attempted to enter at least three vehicles in the area of Constitution Way before fleeing on foot.
None of the vehicles were entered because they were properly secured, police said.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage from nearby commercial properties and tracked the suspect to the area of Walmart.
Distinct articles of clothing observed on the suspect in the video aided in identification, according to police.
While conducting patrol on the morning of Feb. 5, officers located a male matching the suspect’s description in a wooded area near Walmart.
Stoeckel was intercepted and taken into custody without incident.
He was charged with three counts of criminal attempt to commit burglary to a motor vehicle, a third-degree crime.
Stoeckel was issued a complaint warrant and lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending his appearance in Sussex County Superior Court.
