Three arrested on weapons charges in Prospect Park

PROSPECT PARK, NJ — Three people were arrested on weapons charges after a traffic stop revealed a loaded handgun in their vehicle.

Officer C. Maruri stopped a white Chevrolet Malibu for failing to use a directional signal.

The officer requested and received consent to search the vehicle.

The search revealed a loaded, defaced .22 caliber Beretta handgun hidden under the front passenger seat.

Nikeem Thompson, Danielle Elliott and Shondell Lowery were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to have weapons and possession of a defaced firearm.

All three also received motor vehicle tickets for open-container violations.

They were remanded to the Passaic County Intake Hub.
