Carjacking suspect arrested in Georgia

HOWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ — A second suspect in a January carjacking has been arrested in Georgia after fleeing New Jersey, police said Thursday.

Baldemar Sandoval-Herrera, 20, of Asbury Park, was identified as the second suspect involved in the carjacking, according to the Howell Township Police Department.

An arrest warrant was issued after Sandoval-Herrera fled the state, charging him with first-degree carjacking, second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

Detectives worked with the FBI Task Force to locate Sandoval-Herrera.

He is being held in a Georgia county jail awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

The first suspect, Melvin J. Cruz-Salmoran, 19, of Neptune Township, was arrested Feb. 3 and remains in custody at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
