ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP, NJ — A threatening phone call to Matawan Regional High School on Tuesday afternoon prompted a lockdown of all schools in the district before police determined the threat was not credible.
The school’s administration reported receiving the threatening call to the main office earlier in the afternoon.
The School Resource Officer and school district staff immediately placed the high school in lockdown.
Out of an abundance of caution, lockdown procedures were also implemented at all schools throughout the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District.
Officers from the Aberdeen Township Police Department’s Patrol and Detective Divisions responded and initiated an investigation.
Officers from the Matawan Borough Police Department and the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office assisted by maintaining a presence at each school while lockdown procedures remained in place.
Based on the findings of the investigation, the reported threat was determined not to be credible.
The Aberdeen Township Police Department will continue to maintain a presence at school buildings.
