BREWSTER, NY — New York State Police arrested a man on drunken driving charges after responding to a hit-and-run crash at a gas station on March 4, 2026.
Troopers from the Brewster barracks were called to assist the Village of Brewster Police Department with a hit-and-run property damage accident at the Sinclair gas station at 494 Main Street at approximately 6:29 p.m.
While canvassing the area, troopers located a vehicle matching the description in a rear parking lot on Main Street.
The operator, identified as Julian M. Castillo, 22, of Brewster, displayed signs of intoxication.
Castillo failed standardized field sobriety tests.
Investigation revealed that two children, ages 9 months and 2 years old, were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Castillo was taken into custody and transported to the Brewster barracks for processing.
He submitted a chemical breath test that yielded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.11 percent.
The children were safely released to a sober third party.
Castillo was charged with two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, a class E felony, driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor, and vehicle and traffic law violations.
He was issued traffic tickets returnable to the Village of Brewster Court on March 23, 2026, at 4:30 p.m.
