Bicyclist injured in Homer

HOMER, NY — A bicyclist was injured March 9 on U.S. Route 11 under the Interstate 81 overpass in what was initially reported as a possible vehicle versus bicycle crash.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene at 11 a.m. for the report.

First responders arrived to find a person and bicycle down in the roadway.

Emergency care was rendered to a male patient who was transported to a hospital for higher injury care.

U.S. Route 11 was shut down for a short period while first responders conducted the initial investigation.

Investigators do not believe a vehicle was involved with the incident, though the investigation is ongoing.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police, Village of Homer Police Department, Homer and Cortlandville fire departments, and TLC Ambulance.
