HARTFORD, VT — Two Brooklyn, New York residents were arrested following a traffic stop on Interstate 89 South on March 6.
Lt. Richard King conducted the traffic stop at mile marker 2.4 at approximately 8:13 p.m. after witnessing several motor vehicle violations.
The vehicle failed to pull over promptly, traveling more than half a mile before stopping.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers detected a strong smell of marijuana.
The driver, identified as Shalliah J. Ivory, 23, of Brooklyn, New York, was operating the vehicle with only a learner’s permit.
The passenger was unable to provide a driver’s license or valid identification and was detained for proper identification.
He was later identified as Arcelio Barnaby Jr., 24, of Brooklyn, New York.
A search of Barnaby revealed possession of crack cocaine.
The vehicle was subsequently towed from the scene, and both individuals were transported to the Hartford Police Department for processing.

Both individuals are scheduled to appear in Windsor County Superior Court on May 5 at 8:30 a.m.
The Windsor County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Hartford Police Department and the Vermont State Police.
