OAK BLUFFS, MA — Police arrested a man on a drug charge after an officer discovered suspected cocaine during a vehicle check late Saturday night.

An Oak Bluffs Police Department patrol officer assigned to the Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force was patrolling the area of Medeiros Cove off Barnes Road at approximately 11:14 p.m. Feb. 21 when he observed a black Dodge Charger parked in the area.

The officer approached the vehicle and found a male and female inside.

The male was identified as Douglas Da Silva, 24, of Edgartown, who was the registered owner of the vehicle.

While interacting with the occupants, the officer observed what he believed was drug paraphernalia in plain view.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 8.4 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine.

The suspected cocaine was individually packaged in a manner consistent with illegal drug distribution, police said.

Da Silva was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute a Class B substance (cocaine).
