Pedestrian killed in Monroe Township crash

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 33-year-old woman from Williamstown died Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the Black Horse Pike near South Main Street, police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:36 p.m. on U.S. 322 (South Black Horse Pike), according to the Monroe Township Police Department.

A 25-year-old woman from Blackwood was driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound when the vehicle’s front driver side struck the pedestrian in the inside travel lane, authorities said.

The driver stopped, pulled onto the shoulder and attempted to render aid at the scene.

The pedestrian was transported to Jefferson Hospital–Washington Township, where she was pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m.

Police said another pedestrian was also attempting to cross at the time of the collision, but no injuries to that person were reported.

The area did not have accommodations for pedestrian crossing, authorities noted.

The collision remains under investigation by Ptl. Ryan Hoffman of the Monroe Township Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau.

Williamstown Fire Department, Gloucester County EMS and Inspira Hospital ALS assisted at the scene.
